PILEH BAY A hidden emerald lagoon enclosed by sheer limestone walls, Pileh Bay feels like a secret world. The calm, clear water is perfect for swimming and snorkeling. You will spot colorful fish darting through the coral below. This is one of the most photographed spots in all of Thailand. VIKING CAVE Named for the ancient paintings on its walls, Viking Cave is a towering sea cave home to thousands of swiftlets who build the edible nests prized in Chinese cuisine. We cruise past the cave entrance and learn about the centuries-old bird nest harvesting tradition still practiced today. MONKEY BEACH A small, wild beach where families of macaque monkeys roam freely along the shoreline. Watch them play in the jungle and scamper along the rocks. A magical wildlife encounter just minutes from the main island. BAMBOO ISLAND A tiny paradise of pure white sand and crystal-clear water, Bamboo Island is the perfect final stop. Shallow reefs make it ideal for snorkeling, and the beach is often completely empty. Float, snorkel, or simply lie in the sun before heading back to Phuket.

JAMES BOND ISLAND (KOH TAPU) Officially named Koh Tapu ("Nail Island" in Thai), this distinctive spike of rock jutting from the sea became instantly recognizable when it appeared in the 1974 James Bond film "The Man with the Golden Gun." Standing beneath it is genuinely awe-inspiring. The rock is far taller than it appears in photos. We give you time to explore the small beach and surrounding formations before the day crowds arrive. SEA CAVES & HOK Phang Nga Bay hides dozens of sea caves. Some can only be entered at low tide, leading into hidden rooms with lagoons inside, open to the sky but completely enclosed by rock walls. Your captain knows the best ones accessible to speedboat. These secret spaces feel entirely other-worldly. KOH PANYEE, THE FLOATING VILLAGE Built on stilts above the water, Koh Panyee is a Muslim fishing village of nearly 2,000 people who have lived on the sea for generations. There is no land beneath most of the village. Just wooden platforms and generations of tradition. Stroll through the market, eat fresh seafood at the waterfront restaurants, and learn about this remarkable way of life. KOH HONG A less-visited gem with a pristine lagoon accessible only by a narrow channel at certain tides. The water inside the lagoon is mirror-calm and the rock formations overhead are extraordinary.

PODA ISLAND (KOH POD) A large, sheltered island with a wide sandy beach and excellent snorkeling just offshore. The reef here is colorful and healthy, with good visibility. Perfect for both experienced snorkelers and first-timers. The beach is rarely crowded and the views across to the mainland cliffs are spectacular. CHICKEN ISLAND (KOH GAI) Named for the rock formation that resembles a chicken head rising from the sea, this island sits in the middle of the bay surrounded by clear, shallow water. The sandbar that forms at low tide between Chicken Island and nearby Tup Island is one of the most photographed natural features in all of Thailand. TUP ISLAND (KOH TUP) A tiny, flat island connected to Chicken Island by a sandbar at low tide. You can actually walk between them through ankle-deep turquoise water. The scene is absolutely surreal, and perfectly photogenic. Tup Island has a small beach with beautiful views in every direction. PHRANANG BEACH Widely considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, Phranang Beach is set at the foot of towering limestone cliffs with perfectly calm, impossibly blue water. There is a famous Princess Cave at one end of the beach, filled with offerings brought by local fishermen for good luck. The beach is only accessible by boat.

The Hong Islands (meaning "room" in Thai, for the enclosed lagoons inside the limestone formations) are one of the most breathtaking and most often overlooked destinations near Phuket. This route is perfect for those who want dramatic natural beauty without the larger crowds of Phi Phi. HONG ISLAND LAGOON (KOH HONG) The star of this route. Koh Hong contains an astonishing enclosed lagoon, accessible only through a narrow channel at certain tides. Once inside, you are surrounded by towering limestone walls open to the sky. The water is mirror-calm and brilliantly clear, reflecting the green jungle above. It is one of the most magical natural spaces in Thailand. We time our visit to coincide with accessible tide conditions. HONG NANG (SECONDARY LAGOON) A second, smaller lagoon adjacent to the main one. Less visited, just as beautiful. The coral gardens around the entrance are exceptional for snorkeling, with high fish diversity in a very healthy reef system. LADING ISLAND (KOH LADING) A quiet, untouched island with a pristine white-sand beach and excellent snorkeling on the surrounding reef. Often completely empty. You may well have the whole beach to yourselves. The water is crystal-clear and shallow, ideal for swimming with children. PAKBIA ISLAND (KOH PAKBIA) A small, forested island at the entrance to the Hong Islands group. The beach here faces west, making it ideal for late-afternoon visits with golden light over the water. Snorkeling off the rocky headlands reveals colorful coral and abundant marine life.
