3 Day Phuket Itinerary: Best of the Island

Making the Most of 3 Days
Three days in Phuket is enough to experience the island's highlights without feeling rushed. This itinerary balances an island tour, beach relaxation, cultural exploration, and food. Adjust based on your interests and energy level.
Day 1: Phi Phi Islands
Start your Phuket trip with the iconic Phi Phi Islands speedboat tour.
Schedule
- 6:30 to 7:30 AM: Hotel pickup by minivan
- 8:00 AM: Depart from pier by speedboat
- 9:00 AM: Arrive at Phi Phi Leh. Visit Maya Bay, Pileh Lagoon
- 11:00 AM: Snorkeling at Shark Point or Bamboo Island reef
- 12:30 PM: Lunch on Phi Phi Don or Bamboo Island
- 2:00 PM: Beach time and swimming
- 3:30 PM: Return journey to Phuket
- 5:00 PM: Back at hotel
Evening
After freshening up, head to dinner. If you are in Patong, walk along the beachfront and choose a restaurant with sea views. In Kata or Karon, try one of the local Thai restaurants. You will be tired after a full day on the water, so an early night is perfectly reasonable.
Day 2: Beach Day and Phuket Old Town
Morning (Beach)
- 8:00 to 11:00 AM: Spend the morning at one of Phuket's best beaches. See our beach guide for recommendations. Swim, sunbathe, or try stand up paddleboarding if available at your beach.
Lunch and Afternoon (Old Town)
- 11:30 AM: Head to Phuket Old Town (Grab taxi, 200 to 500 THB from most beach areas).
- 12:00 PM: Lunch at Lock Tien food court or a Dibuk Road restaurant. Try the Hokkien noodles and oh tao.
- 1:00 to 3:00 PM: Walk the old town. Explore Thalang Road's Sino-Portuguese architecture, Soi Romanee, the street art on Phang Nga Road, and visit the Thai Hua Museum.
- 3:00 PM: Cool off with Thai iced coffee at a local cafe.
Evening
- 5:30 PM: Head to Promthep Cape or a viewpoint restaurant for sunset.
- 7:00 PM: Dinner. If it is Sunday, return to Phuket Old Town for the Walking Street Market.
If it is a Sunday, rearrange the day to ensure you are at the Walking Street Market from 4:00 to 9:00 PM.
Day 3: Phang Nga Bay or Second Island
For your third day, choose based on your interests:
Option A: Phang Nga Bay (James Bond Island)
A Phang Nga Bay tour with kayaking offers a completely different experience from Phi Phi. The sheltered bay, dramatic limestone karsts, sea cave kayaking, and the floating village of Koh Panyee make this an excellent second tour.
- 7:00 to 8:00 AM: Hotel pickup
- Morning: Kayaking through hongs and sea caves
- Midday: James Bond Island visit, lunch at Koh Panyee
- Afternoon: Additional kayaking or island stops
- 5:00 PM: Return to hotel
Option B: Coral Island Half Day + Afternoon Free
If you prefer a more relaxed third day, a half day Coral Island trip gets you to a beautiful beach quickly (15-minute boat ride), leaving the afternoon free for shopping, spa, or packing.
Evening
For your last evening, treat yourself to a nice dinner. The seafood market at Rawai is an excellent choice, or book a table at a beachside restaurant with a view. If you are flying out the next morning, pack and arrange your airport transfer in advance.
Budget for 3 Days
- Budget: 6,000 to 10,000 THB per person (excluding accommodation)
- Mid-range: 12,000 to 20,000 THB per person (excluding accommodation)
- Including accommodation: Add 3,000 to 12,000 THB per night depending on hotel level

Alternative Day 3 Options
If Phang Nga Bay does not appeal to you, here are other excellent ways to spend your third day:
Similan Islands (November to May only)
If you visit during the open season, a Similan Islands day trip offers the best snorkeling near Phuket. Be prepared for a very early start (5:30 AM pickup) and a long but rewarding day that will be the snorkeling highlight of your entire trip.
Koh Racha Beach Day
For a more relaxed third day, take a 30-minute speedboat to Koh Racha Yai for crystal clear water, excellent snorkeling, and a stunning white sand beach. Less intense than a full island-hopping tour but equally rewarding for those who love beautiful beaches and underwater exploration.
Activities and Culture Day
Combine a morning Thai cooking class (1,500 to 3,000 THB) with an afternoon visit to the Big Buddha (free entry, just dress modestly with covered knees and shoulders). End with sunset at Promthep Cape and dinner at a Rawai beachfront restaurant. This gives you culture, food, and scenery in one fulfilling day.
Where to Stay for 3 Days
For a short trip, location matters more than usual. Kata or Karon offer the best overall base with a central location, good beach, reasonable distance to tour departure piers, and plenty of restaurants for every budget. Patong is best if nightlife and shopping are priorities, offering the most walkable evening entertainment. Kamala or Surin are best for a quieter, more upscale experience, though they are slightly further from the main tour departure points.
