Hotel Pickup Areas in Phuket: Which Zone Are You In?
How Hotel Pickup Works
Most island tours from Phuket include complimentary hotel pickup and drop-off in their price. A minivan or car collects you from your hotel lobby in the early morning and brings you to the departure pier. After the tour, you are driven back to your hotel.
However, pickup is not always available from every location in Phuket. Tour operators define "pickup zones" based on distance from the pier. Understanding these zones helps you plan your morning.
Standard Pickup Zones
Most tour operators offer free pickup from these main areas:
Zone 1: Central and South (Included by Most Operators)
- Patong Beach
- Karon Beach
- Kata Beach
- Phuket Town
- Chalong
- Rawai
- Nai Harn
These areas cover the majority of tourist accommodation in Phuket. If your hotel is in any of these locations, pickup is almost certainly included free of charge.
Zone 2: Northwest (Usually Included, Sometimes with Surcharge)
- Kamala Beach
- Surin Beach
- Bangtao Beach / Laguna area
- Cherngtalay
Most operators include these areas, but some charge a small surcharge (200 to 500 THB) because they are further from the piers. Always confirm when booking.
Zone 3: Far North (Surcharge or Not Available)
- Mai Khao Beach
- Nai Yang Beach
- Phuket Airport area
- Nai Thon Beach
These areas in the far north of Phuket are 40 to 50 minutes from the main piers. Some operators offer pickup with a surcharge (300 to 800 THB). Others do not service these areas at all, and you would need to arrange your own transport to the pier.
What Time Is Pickup?
Pickup times depend on your hotel's distance from the pier and the tour's departure time:
- Tours departing at 7:00 to 8:00 AM (most full-day tours): Hotels near the pier are picked up at 6:30 to 7:00 AM. Hotels in Patong are picked up at 6:00 to 6:30 AM. Hotels in the far north may be picked up as early as 5:30 AM.
- Exact times are confirmed by the operator the evening before your tour, usually via messaging app or email.
What If Your Hotel Is Outside the Pickup Zone?
You have several options:
- Self-drive to the pier. Most piers have parking (see our parking guide).
- Take a taxi. Arrange a taxi or use a ride-hailing app to get to the pier.
- Ask for an alternative meeting point. Some operators can pick you up at a nearby hotel or landmark that is within the pickup zone.
- Pay the surcharge. If offered, the surcharge for out-of-zone pickup is usually worth the convenience.
Tips
- Confirm pickup inclusion when booking. State your hotel name and area clearly.
- Be in the lobby 5 to 10 minutes before your pickup time. Drivers have multiple pickups and cannot wait long.
- Have your booking reference ready.
- Note the driver's phone number in case of delays or confusion.
- If you are at a large resort, clarify the exact pickup point (main entrance, lobby, etc.).
