Best Phuket Island Tours: How to Choose by Traveler, Budget and Season
Search for island tours in Phuket and you will find hundreds of listings that look almost the same: a speedboat, a turquoise bay, a buffet lunch. The real differences are in the route, the time you spend on the water, what is included in the price and whether the trip suits the people you are traveling with. This guide puts the day trips we sell side by side so you can pick the right one quickly, and it is honest about when a different kind of trip would suit you better.
We are a small, new booking site and we only list tours from partner operators whose programs and prices we can show in full. Every price below is the price on the tour page, in Thai baht.

Child prices apply to ages 4 to 11 on the Phi Phi and Raya tours, 3 to 11 on the James Bond Island tour and under 12 on the rafting trip. Hotel transfers are included on all five tours, with a small surcharge from some outer areas on the Phi Phi tour.
Phi Phi, Maya Bay and Khai Island
This is the classic Phuket day trip and the one most first-time visitors want. The speedboat leaves from a pier on Phuket's east coast and covers 3 islands and 7 stops: a first swim at Khai Nai, Monkey Beach and lunch on Phi Phi Don, Viking Cave, Pileh Lagoon, snorkeling, a turn on a stand-up paddle board and the walk from Loh Samah Bay onto the sand of Maya Bay.
Why pick it: the national park fee, a light breakfast, a halal buffet lunch, snorkel gear, the paddle board and accident insurance are all in the price, so there is nothing to pay on the day unless you choose optional sea sports.
Think twice if: you are prone to seasickness, pregnant or have back problems. The crossing to Phi Phi is on more open water and speedboat rides can be bumpy. It is also a long day, about 10 hours door to door.

James Bond Island and Phang Nga Bay
Phang Nga Bay is a different world from Phi Phi: hundreds of limestone towers standing in calm, jade green water. The day covers Panak Island, a sea canoe paddled by a local guide into the hidden lagoon of Hong Island (or Talu Island, depending on the tide), a Thai buffet lunch (halal) at the Koh Panyee stilt village, James Bond Island, Ice Cream Cave and a last swim at Naka Island.
Why pick it: the bay is sheltered by the mainland, so the water is usually calmer than on the way to Phi Phi, and it runs in both seasons. It is the best choice if the scenery matters more to you than snorkeling.

Raya and Coral Island Snorkeling Tour
The easiest island day from Phuket. You leave from Chalong Pier on the south coast, spend the morning on Coral Island (Koh Hey), then continue to Racha Yai (often called Raya) for snorkeling at Patok Bay, Lah Bay or Siam Bay, a buffet lunch at a seaview restaurant and free time on the beach. Each boat ride is short, around 30 minutes.
Why pick it: it is the lowest priced tour we list, the boat rides are short, and Racha has some of the clearest water you can reach on a day trip from Phuket. Mask, snorkel, life jacket and a licensed English or Chinese speaking guide are included. Fins can be rented on board for 100 THB.
Think twice if: you want cliffs and famous film locations. Racha and Coral are granite islands with soft beaches, not limestone karsts. Pregnant guests cannot join this trip. See our guides to Racha Island and Coral Island.
Jet Ski 7 Islands Tour
Instead of a boat seat you get your own 1200 cc jet ski for the day. A guide leads a small group across the sheltered water off Phuket's east coast to Naka Yai, Naka Noi, Monkey Island, Phai, Hum and Phae islands and through a mangrove channel, with a Thai lunch, drinks, insurance and hotel transfer included.
Why pick it: it is the most active way to see the islands, and for two riders sharing one jet ski the price works out at 3,750 THB each.
Think twice if: nobody in your group can drive. Drivers must be at least 15 years old and sober, and pregnant women, elderly guests, disabled guests and guests with medical conditions are not allowed to drive. White Water Rafting, Flying Fox and Waterfall
Not an island tour, but it belongs on this list because it is the best alternative when the sea is rough or you simply want a change. You head north into the Phang Nga jungle for 5 km of river rafting with a rafting guide, a flying fox, a jungle walk to a waterfall and the Suwankuha cave temple. Lunch, insurance and hotel transfer are included. It is not suitable for pregnant guests or anyone with back, neck or heart problems. More in our rafting guide.
Private Speedboat Charters
If you are a group, or you want to reach the famous spots before or after the main tour boats, a private charter gives you the whole boat, a captain and crew, soft drinks, life jackets, fuel, insurance and hotel pickup, with up to 6 hours on the water. Prices are per boat, not per person:
- Phi Phi Islands: 29,000 THB
- Phang Nga Bay: 35,000 THB
- Hong Islands (Krabi): 25,000 THB
- 4 Islands (Krabi): 20,000 THB

How to Choose by Traveler Type
First-time visitors
If you only do one island day, most people choose Phi Phi. If you have time for two, add James Bond Island. The two days feel completely different, one about beaches and lagoons, the other about rock towers and caves. Families with young children

Snorkelers
Racha Yai has the clearest water of the day trips we list. Phi Phi also includes snorkeling near Viking Cave. Phang Nga Bay is not a snorkeling destination.
Couples and friends
The jet ski tour is the most fun if you like being in control, and a private charter is the most relaxed if you want to set your own pace.

From the lowest to the highest listed adult price: Raya and Coral Island (2,400 THB), white water rafting (2,500 THB), Phi Phi, Maya Bay and Khai Island (3,100 THB), James Bond Island and Phang Nga Bay (3,500 THB plus the park fee in cash) and the jet ski tour (7,500 THB per jet ski for 1 or 2 riders). How to Choose by Season
- November to April: the calmest seas and clearest water. Every tour on this page is a good choice. December to March is the busiest period, so book a few days ahead.
- May to October: the southwest monsoon brings wind, swell and showers. Phang Nga Bay and the east coast (James Bond Island, the jet ski tour) are the most sheltered. Raya, Coral and Phi Phi still run on many days, but the crossings are rougher and some days are cancelled for safety. Rafting works in any season, with the guide deciding on the day based on the river level.
- Maya Bay: the national park has closed it for about two months in most recent low seasons, around August and September. Check before you book.

Which is the best island tour from Phuket?
There is no single best tour. For first-timers, Phi Phi is the classic choice. For calm water and scenery, James Bond Island and Phang Nga Bay. For young children and snorkeling, Raya and Coral Island.
Can I do two island tours on back-to-back days?
Yes, but the Phi Phi and James Bond Island days start early and end late. Many people prefer a beach day in between. Our Phuket day trip planner lists pickup and return times for each tour.
Are hotel transfers included?
Yes, on all five tours on this page. On the Phi Phi tour, hotels in Kamala pay a 200 THB per person surcharge and some outer areas need a private car, which you can add when booking.
What happens if the weather is bad?
